Nurgul Arikan
Artist (Ex Libris, Graphic Arts), Graphic Designer. Lecturer, Author, Collector. Board of Directors at ASBC&D (est.1922) Advisory Committee, Turkish Delegation.
Ms. Nurgul Arikan worked as a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts in a private university (FMV ISIK) in Istanbul. She presents lectures about Graphic Arts and Graphic Design, Fashion, and Textile Design Departments. In addition, she is a design consultant on corporate advertising campaigns. Ms. Arikan serves on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Bookplate Collectors & Designers (est. 1922) and she is a member of the Istanbul Ex-Libris Society and Deutsche Exlibris-Gesellschaft.
As a Graphic Designer, she was employed within the Eczacibasi Pharmaceuticals Group at the Eczacibasi Pharmaceuticals Marketing Company and at the Eczacibasi-Baxter Healthcare Joint Venture. While working there, she managed the Graphic Design, Advertising, and Corporate Identity programs. At Eczacibasi-Baxter she also initiated and set up systems for Corporate Identity, providing training and consulting to both fellow employees and suppliers.
Ms. Arikan graduated from the Graphic Arts Division of the Faculty of Arts at Cukurova University. She completed her Masters Degree in "Graphics of Advertising" at the Graphic Arts Division of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Marmara University. Her thesis was developed on "Internationally Successful and Award-Winning Advertising Campaigns." In 2003 she obtained her second advanced Degree from the Division of Public Relations of the Faculty of Communications at Anadolu University. In 2015 she was awarded a Degree in Radio and Television programming at Anadolu University.
In recent years, she has focused on the art of ex libris design. Nearly six centuries old, this graphic art form is reproduced as a printed label that marks pride in the ownership of books. Essentially this is in the category of logo development and is a reflection of the owners tastes and interests whether it is designed for an institution or an individual. It is the unique combination of art and typography. She has won several awards in international competitions. Her works are in many countries, libraries and museums. Furthermore her art has been presented in solo exhibitions and her ex libris designs are often shown in newspapers and magazines of different countries.
Nurgul uses various materials in her works. Oil, acrylic, watercolor, aquarel pencil, pastel, ecolin paints, ink, collage, linoleum block printing, photography, and typography. When required, she uses the infinite possibilities of the computer.
She develops custom designed bookplate art, photographs, and graphic arts. She is currently working out of her studio in Gokturk, Istanbul, Turkey.
